School Tours

School tours are by reservation only, and preferably on Tues-Wed-Thur, from 8:30am - 3:30pm. To make a reservation: email us at honeycrispisgreat@gmail.com, or call 608-633-6961 (cell) and leave a message.

School tours can be designed for students of all ages, including preschoolers. In fact, the majority of the tours we've given have been to younger age groups.  Bigger groups can be divided into 2 or 3 smaller groups that can rotate through the various activities, but there is a 10 child minimum for a "tour guide".

Activities may happen in any order:

1. Learning Shed - Learn the importance of a healthy wild bee population, photosynthesis, and the life cycle of creatures that live around us...(15-20 min.)

2. Apple Picking - Individual bags given to each child for (includes Honeycrisp) PYO...(15-20 min.)

3. Visit the Animals - Assortment of Barnyard Animals ... (15 min.)

4. Play-At-Your-Own-Risk on the Tire Gym or Giant Slide (15-20 min). No supervision is provided, and adults must be attentive at the play areas. (Caution: Slide is fast and not recommended for children under 4 years old.)

5. Back to Your School.

Cost is $7 per child. Teachers/chaperones are free, although adults can also PYO for the same $7/per bag.

As a teacher, here are some tips you may want to consider before bringing your class to the orchard:
Prepare your class and yourself for inclement weather and field conditions. The orchard is located on a ridge-top, and has cool breezes and wet morning grasses. Don't forget bee kits if you have students who are allergic.

And, please remember:

The orchard is a working farm! While we have made a commitment to teaching children about apples, this is not our primary job. Please be active in the control and care of your class.
